44-year-old man from Douglasville, Georgia, was killed

A Georgia man originally from Milwaukee, who was in town for a funeral, was shot Thursday afternoon on the city's north side.

Surveillance video obtained by WISN 12 News shows the car was driving seemingly out of control as it crashed into signs and poles. It came to a stop at Teutonia and Atkinson avenues.

Police said they were first called for a shots fired report neat 19th Place and Melvina Street at about 2:45 p.m.

Then there was a call for the crash.

The 44-year-old driver, identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office as Maurice Bates from Douglasville, Georgia, died from his injuries.

A family member identified the victim to WISN 12 News as Maurice Bates. They said Bates was visiting Milwaukee for a funeral just down the street the same day.

Police are looking for the gunman.
